Go Rick Yourself

Project Overview

Adult Swim came to PRPL looking for a character builder for Rick & Morty to promote the premiere of Season 5! They wanted to increase viewers' incentive to watch the live premiere and give them a personal leave behind that reflected their personality through an interactive experience that immersed them in the world of Rick & Morty.

Strategy

With a hard deadline of June 10th for launch, we completed the project from client bill of sale to product shipment in 11 weeks. We delivered a consistent and robust experience across all standard devices and screen resolutions, including desktop, mobile, and tablet.

On project kickoff, I led the team through a quick wireframing workshop. We knew we needed three key pages: The character builder, scene selection, and results/share page. Our workshop goal was to quickly layout options for how these pages would function.

Builder-1-1
Builder-5
Builder-3-1
Builder-4
Builder-2-1

Because of the project's tight timeline, our wireframes were scrappier, but they provided a clear understanding for me as the designer and our dev to align on the project direction.

Thinking Responsive

In order to get all of our assets to line up with every body type, we had to pull them into Illustrator and assign them with pinpoints. These points are tracked on the backend, so there are no broken or unusual renderings of characters.

The website is completely responsive to fit all devices and browser window sizes. I designed for all these screen sizes to make sure that users would have a seamless experience no mater what platform they were using it on.

As a huge fan of Rick and Morty, it was such an honor to be able to do all of the visual design and prototyping for this project. Below are some results from three days after site launch.
